1928, ist Rektor em. der St.-Josephs-Universität in Beirut, Inhaber des Lehrstuhls Louis D – Instutut de France d'anthropologie
interculturelle. 1990 und 2010 Preisträger der Académie française. Seine Lehrgebiete sind Philosophie und Anthropologie. Seit
1958 arbeitet und forscht er über das Problem der interkulturellen Berührungen und Konflikte, zuerst im Libanon, dann in
Argentinien und Kanada. Selim Abou ist Herausgeber der Buchreihe Menschen und Gesellschaften im Nahen
Osten und hat unter anderem die Bücher Der entwurzelte Libanon (1978, 1987) und Kulturelle Identität (1981, 1986)
veröffentlicht. Zahlreiche wissenschaftliche Arbeiten sind im Libanon, in Frankreich und in Kanada erschienen.
