The conception of the International Series of the Yearbook of the Austrian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies engrosses the society‘s purpose to publish research results on the multinational and multicultural Habsburg Monarchy of the 18th century. At that time, the Habsburg Monarchy was a leading political and cultural power in the centre of Europe, a power which exerted influence on all the territories of this continent, and, by turns, was influenced as well. Knowledge of these interdependencies as well as of the internal structures of the Habsburg Monarchy is therefore fundamental to the series’ view on the European 18th century and the developments resulting from it – not only in Europe.

Les objectives de la Collection internationale de la Revue annuelle de la Société autrichienne des études du XVIIIè siècle approfondisent l‘intention de la société de rendre public des recherches interdisciplinaires, internationales et multiculturelles, concernant la monarchie des Habsbourg au XVIIIè siècle. Puissance politique et culturelle au centre de l’Europe, la Maison des Habsbourg exerçait son pouvoir dans de multiples régions et, par réciprocité, elle profitait des courants d’idées qui lui en parvenaient. Pour se figurer l’Europe au XVIIIè siècle et le développement qu’elle a connu, il faut prendre en compte ces phénomènes réciproques mais aussi les processus internes et administratifs, typiques des pays habsbourgeois.

Mit der Einrichtung der Internationalen Beihefte bietet die Österreichische Gesellschaft zur Erforschung des 18. Jahrhunderts der internationalen Forschung zur Habsburgermonarchie ein Forum zur Publikation von Studien, die sich mit allen Aspekten der Kultur, Wissenschaft und Politik dieser zentralen Macht auf dem europäischen Kontinent beschäftigen. Sowohl die Beziehungen und Entwicklungen innerhalb der multikulturellen und multinationalen Monarchie als auch ihre Wechselwirkung mit den geistigen und politischen Strömungen in Europa und Übersee werden in dieser Buchreihe, die für alle Sprachen des habsburgischen Herrschaftsbereiches und alle Wissenschaftsdisziplinen offen ist, beleuchtet.
